Rival - Lord Rivz - Review

‎Of all of Grimes last wave of new wave MC's Rival is if not the most consistent then certainly the most thorough and with a now extensive catalogue of Mixtapes and EP's as well as some Epic Grime sets and Freestyles the time has come for Rival to really mark his territory and enforce it which is exactly what he does with his latest EP Lord Rivz.
Starting with Intro Rival really shows he is determined to be defined as great with him dropping some serious Bars over the menacingly dark instrumental Rival dazzles with lines like
("Its a par for them everybody thinks they're Ali, till I make em shake like Ali,Yeah the Blake is Parkinsons,Rivs you can't war with him, homicide writer I'm marking men")
Rival proves on this track that unlike many artists whom recycle their lyrics he is a writer and a very talented one at that as is exemplified on tracks like Just a dream,Talk that and Rivals Rush which serves as a lesson in Grime with Rival dropping Bars in a serious double timed flow but with a clarity which is rare with lines like ("Internet saying that I'm top 3 so I need top 3 money to prove that, but really I'm not Top 3 I'm just relevant but I can bare Mcs that I'm better than, most are happy with a spot on Logan,me I'm trying to go further than a few veterans")
Lord Rivz has a few well placed guest spots with Ghetts,Sharky Major,Young Kye and Lioness all trading bars with Rival and its the collaboration with Lioness and Logan Sama that is probably one of the best tracks on the mixtape with the two mcs planning and carrying out a heist with Logan Sama narating their movements all in all this concept track shows Rival can hold his own against Grimes leading lady but also craft tracks which are pretty much audio cinematography and serve as an example of Grime at its finest.
Lord Rivz is Balanced and in all honesty is a contender for Grime EP of the year although at 10 tracks it runs a bit short he's given up 10 of the best with no desperate attempts at day time radio play and also not deciding to show his versatility by rapping as Rival shows with Lord Rivz that he is more than capable of Keeping it Grime and Keeping it Banging with the end result a mixtape that deserves a place in every Grime fans collection!
