YOUNGS TEFLON feat SDG - MIKE LOWERY

Skepta's 'Mike Lowery' continues to bring out the rawness in MC's and the latest version see's two of South London's hottest lyricists Youngs Teflon & Skwilla Da Gorrilla spitting flames on the Grime instrumental with both of them bringing a certain South London swagger to the track and putting a lot of Grime MC's to shame as.Youngs Teflon drops lines like ("When I bust mic MC's start fall call me Teflon Tetris,I keep links with the Gangsters goons grown men and the getters") with Skwilla coming through with ("Skwilla da Gorrilla I eat mans dinner with the spinner I did that plenty ,I come from a hood where nothing ain't good nobody ain't got no Bently") These two are definitely innovating the game as the lines between Genres gets more blurred I guarantee were will hear more UK Rap artists killling the occassional Grime beat.Thank Skwilla and Youngs for that.

Review: Skwilla Da Gorilla - Banana Clip

I first heard Skwilla Da Gorilla on Mykal Millions street classic 'Welcome to the city' Dvd where he spat a rhyme about his incarceration which stood out and made me take notice.Since then I listened to his 2 mixtapes 'The Love of Elizabeth' as well as the 2010 epic 'From a Penny to a Pound' as well as his many high powered freestyles and collaborations on others tracks as well as his Stellar performances on the Carnshill O.T mixtape  and Soka Beats 'Futuristic wave projects'
In the run up to his forthcoming project 'Jungle Fever' dropping in 2011 we have 'Banana Clip' which is basically the best of Skwilla Da Gorrilla and is hosted by Dice (Hoods Hottest) who does a good job in selecting the 50 tracks which make up the mix tape which contains snippets from some of the hardest SDG tracks as well as some of his hottest verses off collaborations including the one of the biggest UK rap tracks of 2010 'Afghanistan' with his long time collaborator Blade Brown other noteworthy collaborative verses include 'Death around the corner' with Youngs Teflon and some of his older Freestyles with Tempman and a bag of other artists
'Banana Clip' as a best of does well to expose Skwillas main skills as
Skwillas clarity and ability to maintain subject manor as well as the way he sometimes uses his music as therapy are possibly unmatched although his work rate isn't as high as many other artists so he is sometimes underrated but with lyrics like
("There's been times I've had to squeeze off and there's been times I've had to breeze off,My towns hot,there's been times I've had to switch off my phone and take a couple weeks off,Shouts P1 don I get weed off,you know Stockwells the Number 1 weed spot,Not to mention the white and B shots,everybody's overweight cos we eat lots!") Also check out tracks like the excellent 'Question a G' and 'Days of my Life' and Its not difficult to work out that SDG stands a cut above most UK street rappers as 'Banana Clip' proves with him taking you on a trip through his life as he touches on the good,bad and ugly but always in a sincere manner and with touches of comedic value which works well to balance his extremely Vivid tales of the South London streets and the Jungle (Stockwell) but don't think its a purely 'road man affair' as Skwilla drops a few tracks for the Ladies including 'Carmen Regina' in full and 'Tonight I be your Barry white' which is a rare unforced certified smoothed out piece of UK rap which works on every level with Dinero handelling vocal duties like a true G.
'Banana Clip' scores a straight 9/10 as in all honesty as far as UK Road Rap goes this sits right next to next any of the best UK releases you can mention if not above.

REVIEW - BLADE BROWN - BAGS & BOXES

Blade Brown is your favourite Trap Rappers favourite Trap Rapper trust me, and with Blade seeking to Maintain and solidify his spot He drops the mixtape 'Bags to Boxes'.
For those amongst you that don't understand this sort of terminology leave this mixtape well alone as Mykal Million(one of the hardest working guys in the UK game) puts it at on the intro "This mixtape is gonna have a lot of you Trapping" and he's not wrong as Blade Brown takes you on a complete tour of the UKs Traplife with tracks like the epic 'OT ' with Blade proudly proclaiming("A trap song without me on it,Is like a strip without B in it!") 'Bags to Boxes also includes trap classics like 'Fast Dough' ft FemFel,'Feel like I made it','Hammer em Down' ft Giggs,Dope Man and when I come around as well as the introspective 'Nobodys perfect' and 'walk wid me' ft Timbar on which the two trade inner city realities over an infectious Hill production beat also the back in the days theme of 'Young days ft Taymah' but the icing on the cake would have to be 'Afghanistan' ft Skwilla Da Gorrilla with the two trading extremely harsh bars over an orchestral sounding Hill Production with Blade spitting("And I'm heard that you wanna bun me,Now I'm sitting outside your yard like an Undie!").
This album is a definite progression on his last project 'The Best Of Blade' as it plays more like an album than a mixtape and gives a glimpse of what an official project from your favourite Trapper might sound like,and with bars like these Its sounding good!
An essential purchase get it now 9/10!

Fresh off the success of the critically acclaimed mixtape'For the love of Elizabeth' your boy Skwilla da Gorilla comes even harder with his latest offering for the street 'From a penny to a pound'.
Hosted by the Souths mixtape king Mykal Million this mixtape shows a significant rise in the standard of Skwillas work,both in his flow/delivery and his content/concepts which has been missing from the UK hiphop game recently and to be precise this is more of an album than a mixtape as the beats are all original productions which gives to an added feel authenticity to this project which is a definite bonus.With 18 tracks and 5 bonus tracks Skwilla manages to cover most bases but is at his most comfortable on tracks like'They testing me''love vs hate'and 'Made Men'-feat Blade,which are all heavy rugged street bangers for he man dem' and He manages to convey his street knowledge as well as his regrets an dreams into these tracks as easily as He issues a threat to his enemies like on the excellent bonus track 'Holla' with lines like "My line pings like a blackberry/getting mad skrilla see I stack heavy/stick up your white house jack your Pressie/know the time when I jack you for your bezzie/my eyes are the window to my soul/I seen alot of hard done shit on the roads/man rocking silver calming that its gold/a lot of money makes a young nigga feel old."
Its with bars like this and tracks like'The interview'-feat Mykal Million,'Dirty Cane' and'Game over'-feat Timbar are some of the best bits of UK hiphop to drop over the past few years added with tracks like'Letter to my lost ones'which finds Skwilla showing a comendible amount of strength as he writes a letter to his Late Mother and others in a way anyone who has lost someone dear to them will understand and its the ability to fashion thought provoking tracks like this and 'Question a G' that should position Skwilla as on of the best in the UK
